The bedset

I think that I am going to make the bedset for the crib myself. I have been looking at a lot of different styles and I have found one or two that I like a lot- with maybe a few alterations. Call me weird but I don't really want to do anything that is gender neutral, I figure if we have a boy then I can make another one and then we will have a set for each gender. My favorite bedset is from Pottery Barn. Take a look.

If I did this one then I would probably be using various colors of pink and maybe some yellow or green.

Here is the up close of the actual quilt. It looks a little busy but I think that I could calm it down with certain patterns and colors. I am also not sure if I would do the dots in the middle. First of all, I can't figure out how to do them and secondly I think that it might be nice just to have the plain white borders.
I like this one a lot and I don't think that it wouldn't be very hard to make. Hopefully I will be able to find some good sales on the fabric.

Here is another one that I just barely found. I cannot decide!! Both are something that I could do but I don't know which one to choose.

What do you think??

20 weeks and other stuff

Last Wednesday I reached the 20 week mark. It seems that for the first 20 weeks you have so much to look forward to (seeing the baby- seeing the gender etc) and then once you reach the mark time really begins to fly. I still have a lot that I need to get done before this baby is born!!

Anyway, here are some 20 week pictures.

I do seem to be getting bigger- don't I

Last week our bishop asked Kyle and I if we would speak at a youth fireside this next month. Kyle was given the topic of missionary work and I was given the topic of dating. Yes, dating. And I have decided that the reason the bishop asked me rather than some other lady is because he probably thinks that it wasn't that long ago when I was actually dating, so hopefully there should be a lot of stuff that I still remember. Or maybe not. Anyway, I have been doing a lot of thinking and I feel good about a lot of the stuff that I have prepared. But, I am opening this up to any suggestions or ideas that you feel would be good to be shared. Let me know what you think.

Also, Kyle and I decided that we were paying too much for cable when we only watched like, five channels and half of the other options were in spanish. So we canceled our cable and we now have around 10 channels- 6 in english, 4 in spanish. As a result this has been the first year that we have watched American Idol, believe it or not. You see we watch the show, but we didn't see any of the auditions. So, we have both spent weeks wondering why Scott hasn't been kicked off. He is not that good looking, personality is a little wierd and he is not the most talented singer. We also made up a nickname for him- Elf boy, because he kindof looks like the elves in Lord of the Rings.
Anyway, imagine how jerky we felt when we found out the guy is BLIND!! Sersiously! So, now we are rooting for him because for a blind guy he is incredible. Maybe next year we will actually watch the auditions so we don't miss out on these minor details.

Well, we went to the Doctor the other day....

and found out that we are having a GIRL!!

We are so excited.
I went into the appointment convinced that it was going to be a boy. When the ultrasound technition asked if we wanted to know the sex of the baby we said that we would. So, she went to the "special area" and said, "Okay, what does that look like?" I said, "Oh my gosh, it's a boy!!" And then she said, "Well, actually it's a girl." Let's just say that I was a little shocked.

We were also able to find out some really cool things. For instance, the technition said that it looked like she had Kyle's nose- which made him happy. And then later she even continued by saying that it looked like her face had quite a bit of Kyle's profile. I told her that I was fine with that because I think I married a hottie, so it will be interesting to see.

Also, the baby weighs 3 /4 of a pound. When I asked her if that was a normal weight for this age she said that our baby was actually more on the heavy side. So, we might have a chunker of a baby- which she would get from both of her parents. I, believe it or not, was nine pounds when I was born and Kyle was in the low eights.

Lastly, our baby likes to move- alot. Lucky me, right?

The protective father paranoia has already begun. I had to get my blood drawn after we found out and I later found out that the reality of having a girl had already kicked in for Kyle. He spent the entire time thinking of ways to make it so the baby won't get married.

To celebrate- more for me that for Kyle- we went to Carter's baby store that night and bought some outfits I had had my eye on.

I think that they are pretty cute!

Men and gummi worms

Most women are just too high maintenance I guess.
Men are just happier people--

Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can be President. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another gas station restroom because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Same work, more pay. Wrinkles add character. Wedding dress $5,000, Tux rental $100. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time.
Phone converstaions are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thougtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend.
Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in pulic. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes. Everything on your face stays its original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck.
You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes--one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.
You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24th in 25 minutes.
No wonder men are happier.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday Kyle and I were enjoying a bag of gummi worms and we realized that when it comes to eating gummi worms, we will never be the same.

You see, it all goes back to when we were living in Rexburg. We had just switched apartments and our new next door neighbors had this really cute little boy. We talked to him, and were nice to him but were still not getting the results (aka- getting him to fall in love with us) as fast as we wanted. So we switched our efforts to the second best thing- Bribery.
For the first little bit his parents probably wanted to kill us. Good thing we got to be such good friends! But, everytime we heard them leaving we would open our door- which they had to walk right past- and offer Jamison a gummi worm. It worked like a charm.

As the weather got warmer we would always leave our doors open, and coincidentally so would the Scott's. So, every now and then Jamison would be able to leave his house unnoticed and would walk into our house. Oh- and before I go any further I probably need to mention that he we were friends with his parents and we saw then everyday so it wasn't like we were strangers feeding this unsuspecting little boy candy. It was so funny. We would eat some gummi worms with him and talk to him and then his parents would come find him.

Then, as it got even warmer we would all go and sit outside by the basketball court. There were a whole bunch of us and usually Jamison's friend Tanner would also be out there. So, every once and a while they would be gone and we would find them in our apartment eating the gummi worms because now they both knew where we kept them.

Anyway, that was kindof long, but from now on every time we eat gummi worms that is what we think of. Oh and the moral of all of this is that bribery really does work.

A little update

Do any of you ever get to the point where you know you need to update your blog, but it's been so long since the last post and there is so much to update that you just don't want to? That's where I am at.

However, since Kyle is doing this...

And because I have nothing that it particuarly pressing on my schedule, this seems to be as good of time as any.

My parents came to see us last weekend and my mom taught me how to make baby blankets and pajamas. I am really excited to try them out and if they turn out looking normal I might even post pictures of them on the blog. So, my mom was telling me that we needed to buy a table for my new sewing machine (Thanks Ted and Nancy!!) and the rest of my projects. Luckily, Kyle and I saw an old man throwing this table away in the dumpster the day before.

So I had Kyle and my dad go and get it out of the dumpster. There was no other garbage on top of it - thankfully- and all it needed was to have a good cleaning and some screws tightened. It works out really well for what I need and now there is finally a place for my flowers- that Kyle threatens to throw away every time he sees them.

I have been really working on my food storage and the other day I was, lets's say- scared into doing some water storage. Last Friday our water stopped working- yes, the bathroom, laundry room and kitchen. Kyle went to the front office to see what had happened and came back saying that it was because we had forgotten to pay our water bill and we wouldn't have any water until Monday. I was freaking out, but can you really blame me? I got to the bathroom like, 50 times a day! Soon after I found out that Kyle had fibbed to me and there was only a broken pipe that was promptly being fixed. Needless to say, the next morning I washed and filled all of our empty juice containers.

Today I went to the church cannery for the first time. I was actually very impressed and came home with seven of my very own silver tin cans. I did them myself and I think I am going to go with our ward when they schedule the times. I got six cans of dried refried beans and I broke into getting a can of dried apples. We had made some extra cans and I tried a little piece and they were too good to not get. We are also working on our bucket storage, which I am really happy about.

This is a picture of my recently organized closet. There is seriously something inside of me that it drawn to organizing. If I feel that I am surrounded by clutter then I start to get really antsy- Ask Kyle, it is true. I just can't help but to think that there has to be some way to have a better more organized use of the space. I should have gotten a before and after picture but I didn't. Just imagine something way worse and then look at how it is now.

Lastly, I recently joined our ward book club- which is a whole new post in itself. Anyway, this last month we read this book. It is supposed to be Oprah's pick of the year for 2008 or something. Let's just say that I was less than impressed. It is like a modern day Hamlet, for those of you who know the story. The ending..... made me, as the reader very unhappy. Hopefully this next month will be better. We are reading, The Sunflower.
