Within the last couple of days McKayla has reached her nine month birthday. It is interesting that she had been with us longer than the length of my pregnancy. She sure looks a lot like her daddy. Sometimes I look at both of us in our bathroom mirror and it can't see any of myself in her. To help me feel better Kyle will say something like this - She didn't inherit every physical feature from me, look I think she has your elbows. hum. One of the real things that helps is that without fail one of the very first things that people notice about McKayla is that her fingers are SO long! And who do you thing she got that from? That's right, yours truly. I have abnormally long fingers.
One of my roommates from my freshman year at BYU-I got married in the beginning of April. It was really fun to see her again. Vanalorin is a sweetheart and I am so happy for her. It seems like my freshman year was an eternity ago. Am I really that old? Also, I have a high school reunion in a couple of weeks- where has time gone?
We spent Easter weekend with some dear friends in Rexburg. We got some much needed R and R. I was also good for me to get some closure from Rexburg. Is that weird? Ever since we left I have had this strange thing in my mind telling me that it was perfect there. And what I came to realize is that the memories that I have from there are perfect, but the place itself is not. It is still unnervingly windy, so freezing cold (it snowed a foot in the 2 days that we were there) and it is full of college students. But even with all of those things it will always have a place in my heart.
Those little green things sticking out are our onions! We are so excited to have things actually growing. We check it every day and have a hard time not getting antsy to plant everything else. But we have talked to some of the old timers in our ward and they said not to do anything until at least mothers day weekend.
Kyle got a road bike a couple of weeks ago and is really loving it. As you can also see, he gave himself a buzz cut and it is pretty short. Maybe it will help him to go faster?
Kyle has also been working on finishing our entertainment center. It looks way nice and I will post pictures when it is done!
Last week I think we gave McKayla a complex. You see, I was making some soup and realized halfway through that I forgot to blend up some things that were already in the soup. So I poured the entire boiling pot into the blender, put on the lid and then started to blend. Unfortunately I didn't even think about the pressure that had been building from all of the steam and the lid came bursting off as soon as I pressed go. I got boiling soup all over me and yelled. McKayla was right next to me. Thankfully nothing got on her but I think that I startled her pretty good. Now she cries whenever I use any loud appliance, the vacuum and even my blow dryer. Poor kid- hopefully it does't last for too long.
Last Tuesday night McKayla's first tooth broke through. It wasn't a very pleasant experience- I think that she inherited my low pain tolerance. Thankfully once it finally broke through she was her normal chipper self. I just keep telling myself- 1 down, 31 more to go!
I have recently been made assistant humanitarian chair person. It is a lot funner than I thought that it would be. We enjoy going to the each on tuesdays to help tie quilts. The other day Kyle called me from work and asked if this was the day that I go to save the world. It was pretty funny once I figured out what he was even talking about. I am thankful that I can go to help and hopefully even though it is not saving the world, it is still making a small difference.
I am also on the enrichment committee. And because I am the youngest committee member by probably 20 years- and the only one with a small child, I have been volunteered to start a play group in May. If you have any good ideas of things that we can do please let me know!
About two weeks ago McKayla turned how to smack her lips. It is the most adorable thing I think that I have ever seen.
